Skiers who call Anchorage, Alaska home have a handful of options when it comes to local ski areas and resorts.

Those looking for big mountain adventures can travel south to Alyeska, but family-friendly turns can be found at smaller areas like Hilltop, Hillberg, and Arctic Valley.

Alyeska Resort is known for averaging the most snow of any ski area in the country, but Arctic Valley Ski Area is attempting to steal one of Alyeska's desirable accolades- the last open ski area in the state of Alaska.

Arctic Valley ended their regular season on Sunday, April 14th, but reopened for their first Bonus Weekend on April 20th and 21st. The ski area will welcome guests again on Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th for an additional bonus weekend.

Lifts will run from 12pm-6pm with lift tickets starting at just $59 for adults. See the Instagram announcement embedded below.

Staying open until late-April is impressive, but Arctic Valley is setting their sights on May, with one caveat... The ski area has made it abundantly clear that they must break even to reopen for future Bonus Weekends.

The amount of money they need to make? Just $12,000 each weekend, according to multiple social media posts:

"To keep our spring riding going, we need your help! It costs about $12,000 to operate the ski area for the weekend. To be the last ski area open in Alaska on May 4th, we need your help! Bring your friends, buy your season pass for next year, and have a pretzel and beer on the deck!"- Arctic Valley Ski Area via Facebook

Snow conditions will factor in Arctic Valley's attempt to reopen on May 4th and 5th, but the upcoming weather forecast looks mild, keeping the potential open for the snowpack to last.

If the stars align, it seems that Arctic Valley be able to claim the title of the last ski area open in Alaska. Alyeska Resort closes after this Sunday, April 28th.

To all of our friends in Anchorage-- go get some! Take those lift-served laps at Arctic Valley while you still can. You'll regret it if you don't.
