Is Luka Doncic on Mavericks’ Game 6 injury report?

One of the primary storylines heading into Wednesday’s Game 5 between the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers was Luka Doncic’s health. The Mavs star was battling a knee injury and an illness. In fact, he even admitted that he probably would not have played if it was a regular season game. So is Luka Doncic, who was probable before being made available on Wednesday, on the Mavericks’ injury report for Game 6?

Doncic is not listed on the NBA injury report. However, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Olivier Maxence-Prosper, who are both dealing with ankle injuries, have been ruled out.

Nevertheless, the Doncic update is a positive one. He probably would have played regardless barring a setback. After all, Doncic told reporters earlier in the series that he was going to try to play despite the circumstances.

Perhaps Doncic is trending in a positive direction. Luka has been dealing with a sprained right knee, but he still scored 35 points in the Mavericks’ 123-93 Game 5 victory.

Doncic’s willingness to play through injury has impressed Kyrie Irving.

“Just how much he (Doncic) means to us as a group, but also the pride he takes in taking care of himself when he’s not feeling 100 percent,” Irving said Wednesday after the win, per Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News. “He’s still going to go out there and play. For me, as a teammate, I enjoy that. I enjoy being around somebody like that that’s going to push themselves but also be smart and still make an impact on the game… Even though he’s not feeling well, he’s not able to be 100 percent, he’s still able to lead our team in his own way.

“We just need him to continue to be himself and when he’s being aggressive like that, putting those daggers in every single quarter, it makes a difference for us.”

Luka Doncic has impressed more than his teammates, though. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal had nothing but positive things to say about Doncic’s effort on Wednesday. Nick Wright even predicted that the Mavericks will end up in the “Western Conference Finals at least,” via First Things First.

Overall, it’s been a strong series for Doncic. He has struggled with his shot at times, though. Luka addressed his offensive mindset amid his shooting struggles after Game 5, per Grant Afseth of si.com.

“My shooting has not been great, not even good, very bad, actually,” Doncic said. “I was just getting downhill. The first four 3s I took felt great, they just didn’t go in but then my mentality was going downhill.”

Luka made an adjustment and ended up finding plenty of success on Wednesday. He seems to thrive under pressure. Doncic still finds a way to get the job done even when he is battling an injury, illness, and frustrations with his shot.

The series is not over yet, though. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will look to lead Dallas to a Game 6 win against the Clippers on Friday night.
